Summary
Coffee cup, one of three, soft paste porcelain painted in enamels and gilded, Derby Porcelain Factories, Derby, England, circa 1773-1782, from a partial tea service comprising: three coffee cups, seven saucers, and one tea bowl. Decorated with a geometric border in ultramarine blue and gold and gold flowers. Marked with a crowned 'D' in puce.
Provenance
Listed in the ‘Inventory of Heirlooms at Stourhead directed to be taken by the Will of the late Sir Richard Colt Hoare Bart.’, 1838, in the China Cupboard, as ‘Eight Van Dyke blue and gold handled Coffee Cups and Saucers 10 Tea Cups & 10 Saucers 2 plates.' Bequeathed by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947), 1946.
