Summary
Dish, hard paste porcelain painted in underglaze blue, iron red enamel and gilded (Imari ware), Arita, Japan (for the European market), Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1700-1730. The central roundel decorated with a flower arrangement in a geometric vase, the rim decorated with scrolled cartouches alternating with patterns of blossoming branches. [check marks]
Provenance
Possibly listed in the ‘Inventory of Heirlooms at Stourhead directed to be taken by the Will of the late Sir Richard Colt Hoare Bart.’, 1838, in the China Cupboard, as one of ‘Five large blue gold & red Oriental China Dishes 15 inches over perfect.' Bequeathed by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947), 1946.
