Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Margaret Luttrell, Mrs John Henry Southcote (1747-1792) as a Child by Richard Phelps (Porlock c.1710 - Porlock 1785), signed and dated R Phelps, Pinxit 1751. A portrait of Margaret Luttrell as a girl, standing to right, full-length, wearing a pink and white dress, with a spaniel in a landscape. Exhibited at Somerset Society of Artists, Taunton, Old Masters (see label on back).
Provenance
In Dunster Castle inventory, 1781, p.19 as in little room outside withdrawing room, 'one large portrait picture of a child with a dog'. In 1910 in ventory, p.39 as in Drawing room. Previously on loan, 1975; gift of Lt-Col Geoffrey Walter Fownes Luttrell (1919 – 2007) to the National Trust in 1981.
