Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Man holding a Fish, attributed to Marcellus Laroon the younger (Chiswick 1679 - Oxford 1772), circa 1746. A painted bust-length oval portrait of a man, previously suggested to be John Herne of Carhampton, a tenant at Dunster, in a buff coloured coat, to the left but facing, with white cravat, holding a fish.
Provenance
Previously on loan, 1975; gift of Lt -Col Geoffrey Walter Fownes Luttrell (1919 – 2007) to the National Trust in 1981.
