Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Henry Fownes Luttrell (1753 - 1777), English School, second half 18th century. An oval painted portrait of third son of Henry and Margaret Fownes Luttrell, as a young man, half-length, slightly right, head to left, in (?) naval uniform of dark blue coat with gold facings and buff silk waistcoat, his tricorne hat under his left arm.
Provenance
Previously on loan, 1975; gift of Lt-Col Geoffrey Walter Fownes Luttrell (1919 – 2007) to the National Trust in 1981
Marks and inscriptions
A label on the back describes the sitter as H.F. Luttrell, 1753-1777, third son of Henry and Margaret Fownes Luttrell. There can be no reason to doubt this for he is plausibly a brother to Francis Fownes Luttrell (No.40)
