Oil painting on canvas, Margaret Luttrell, Mrs John Henry Southcote (1747-1792) by Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792), 1769 - 70. An oval painted, half-length portrait, almost in profile to right, head facing, wearing a white dress with pink sash and blue, ermine bordered cloak.
Provenance
Sittings, transcribed from Graves and Cronin, 'Sat in April, 1769. Paid for 1770, Miss Luttrell, now Mrs. Southcote £36.15; frame paid, two guineas and a half'. In Dunster Castle 1910 inventory as in Dining Room; previously on loan, 1975; gift of Lt-Col Geoffrey Walter Fownes Luttrell (1919 – 2007) to the National Trust in 1981
