Summary
A later painted deal stand for a Japanese Export lacquer and mother of pearl inlaid cabinet, English, probably late 17th century. The stand with four oversized S scroll supports carved with foliage and scrolls and joined with a horizontal stretcher carved with an unidentified Ducal crest amid further floral scrolls and a plain stretcher to the back. The decoration to the stand is later and may have originally been gilded, it is difficult to ascertain the age of the stand but stylistically may be late 17th century. For a similar cabinet with an unusual stand see the National Trust collection at Ham House (NT1140084).
