Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Moonlight, by Sebastian Pether (1790 – Battersea 1844), signed and dated, bottom centre right: Seb. Pether 1841. A Gothick scene with a ruined abbey at the right, and a castle on a cliff at the left; a river and waterfall with mountains rising from its bank. A misty haze obscures the features of the fantastic landscape, illuminated by the light of the moon. (A pair to NT/VYN/P/38 - 'Sunrise')
