Summary
Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Gentleman, called Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex (1566-1601), British (English) School, circa 1610-1615. A full-length portrait of a middle-aged man, bare-headed, with beard and moustache, standing to left, right hand on hip, gloves in left, wearing black doublet and breeches slashed to red beneath, white D-shaped collar and cuffs, turquoise (originally green) hose, extravagant pom-poms on shoes and lace attachments to garters. Pendant to Countess of Essex NT 719361.
