Summary
A vinyl record containing two pieces of classical music; Peter and The Wolf Opus 67 by Sergei Prokofiev on Side One and The Young Persons Guide To The Orchestra Opus 34 by Benjamin Britten on Side Two. The music on the record is performed by The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy with narration of Peter and The Wolf by David Bowie. Each side of the record has a circular red paper label in its centre listing the music contained on each side and with a white RCA Records logo printed down the left hand side. Sergei Prokofiev was a Russian pianist, composer and conductor who is regarded as one of the major composers of the Twentieth Century. He composed Peter and The Wolf, a ‘symphonic tale for children’ based upon a Russian folk tale in 1936. Edward Benjamin Brittan was a British composer, conductor and pianist seen as one of the major figures in Twentieth Century British classical music. He composed The Young Persons Guide To The Orchestra Opus 34 in 1945. The Philadelphia Orchestra are an American symphony orchestra formed in 1900. Eugene Ormandy was a Hungarian born American conductor and violinist, best known for his work with The Philadelphia Orchestra. David Bowie (David Robert Jones) was an English singer, song writer, musician and actor. He is considered one of the most influential and innovative musicians of the 20th Century. The music for Peter and The Wolf was recorded at The Scottish Rite Temple in Philadelphia in October 1975 with the narration recorded at the RCA Studio in New York in December 1977. The music for The Young Persons Guide To The Orchestra had been recorded in March 1974. The record was produced by Jay David Saks and was released on the RCA Records label.
