Summary
A cardboard sleeve for a vinyl record, the self titled album by The Smiths. The sleeve was designed by the bands singer, Steven Morrissey and its front cover features a cropped image of the American actor Joe Dallesandro taken from the film Flesh produced by Andy Warhol in 1968. The Smiths is printed in pale blue letters in the front top right corner. The rear of the sleeve has a list of the song titles on the record, the names of the band members and songwriting and production credits all in pale blue lettering on a dark red background. The name of the album/artist and the catalogue number of the record, ROUGH 61, are printed on the spline of the sleeve.
Provenance
Cardboard sleeve for a vinyl record, the self titled album by The Smiths. Designed by Steven Morrissey and released by Rough Trade Records on 20th February 1984. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood via Discogs on 9th March 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures Exploring Childhoods project.
