Summary
A vinyl record, the self titled album by The Smiths. The record contains ten songs with five songs on each side. There is a grey, circular paper label in the centre on each side of the record. These labels have ‘The Smiths’ printed at the top with a list of song titles, durations and songwriting credits at the bottom. There is a Rough Trade logo and the records catalogue number, Rough 61, to the left of centre. The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982 and active until 1987. They were comprised of the four members Steven Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke, with Morrissey and Marr being the bands songwriters. They are seen as one of the most important bands to emerge from the UK’s independent music scene in the 1980’s and despite numerous offers they have never reformed. This self titled record was the bands first studio album. It was recorded at the Pluto and Strawberry studios in Manchester and at the Eden and Matrix Studios in London. It was produced by John Porter and released on the Rough Trade record label.
