Summary

A vinyl record, he album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. This is a fist UK pressing of the album which plays in mono sound and contains thirteen songs with seven on Side One and six on Side Two. There is a circular paper label in the centre of each side. These labels have ‘PARLOPHONE’ printed across the top in yellow capital letters, with a list of song titles for each side printed at the bottom in silver font. The records catalogue number (PMC 7072) is printed to the right of centre on each label. The Beatles were an English rock band who formed in Liverpool in 1960 and whose core line up was comprised of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Active until 1970, they are widely considered to be the most influential band in Western popular music and revolutionised key aspects of the music industry including recording, record production, song writing and artistic presentation. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was the eighth studio album released by the band. It was recorded at the EMI (now Abbey Road) and Regent Sound studios in London and was produced by George Martin. The record was released on the Parlophone label and was the first album made by The Beatles following their decision to retire from live performance in August 1966 and concentrate instead on developing and experimenting with their sound through the new recording and production techniques that had become available. The album includes a range of different styles and influences including vaudeville, music hall and Western and Indian classical music and it is seen as a key work of British psychedelia. It contains a number of the bands most famous songs including ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’, ‘When I’m Sixty Four’ and ‘A Day In The Life’.
