Summary

A 'Tête Jumeau' bisque-headed doll from circa 1890. She has blue glass eyes and painted facial features, and a blonde mohair wig tied in small green ribbon bows and held in place with hairpins. Her body, arms and legs are made of composition - the paint on the hands is slightly worn off and cracked, and the left foot is cracked. She has swivelling joints at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, tops of legs and knees. All of her clothes are made of cream-white linen. Her dress is decorated at the hem, sleeve cuffs, neckline and front panel with broderie anglaise, fastened at the back with drawstrings which are threaded through the waist and neck edge. Under this is a waist petticoat fastened with a hook and eye and decorated at the hem with lace. Under this is a full petticoat decorated at the hem with lace, fastened with drawstrings at the back. Under this is a pair of drawers decorated at the hem with lace and fastened with a button. She is wearing one short knitted cotton sock and a brown leather shoe (decorated with a ribbon and metal star rosette and fastening with a metal button and tape loop) on her right foot. Around her waist and also tied round her right wrist is a length of pink ribbon on which is tied a small hand mirror with a round glass. Around her head is a band of nylon ribbon, tied on top of her head.
