Summary
The helmet of a child-size 'Lifeguard' uniform worn by the donor, born 1943, when aged about five or six. It is possibly home-made, but second-hand when the donor received it. He was living in Harrow, Middlesex at the time. As well as the helmet, the uniform comprises a jacket and trousers. The helmet is made of cardboard painted silver on the outside, with a chin-strap made of plated string painted silver. The helmet has the royal coat of arms fastened to the front. It is made of metal and painted gold. The plume is made from long dried grass supported by a gold-painted wooden spool.
Provenance
Worn by the donor in circa 1948-1949 when aged about 5-6. Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr R. Wildsmith in October 2010.
