Summary
A clockwork tinplate railway train set (gauge 0). Consisting of engine, tender, two coaches, van and ten pieces of railway track (of which six are curved). All items of rolling stock have couplings at front and back. All rolling stock except engine have diamond shaped embossed mark enclosing letter G B N. One piece of track has an automatic braking system attached. Four wheeled clockwork engine printed dark green with red, black and gold lining (printed lines). Silver coloured dome and safety valve. Printed in gold on a black panel on both sides of cab is 0 over 35. Embossed inscription on front of engine D.R.G.M. PATENT and embossed monogram G B N. Key to engine missing. Tender containing 'coal' and printed dark green and black under frame to match engine. One coach with open windows printed dark green with lining to match engine. Doors printed I to indicate presumably first class. One coach with open windows printed dark green with lining to match engine. Doors printed I to indicate presumably first class. One coach with open windows printed to imitate varnished wood. Doors printed II to indicate presumably second class. At either end of coach the letters G.B.N. dep. are printed. Van printed grey to imitate wooden planks. Printed in yellow on both sides is 1520. At either end of van the letter G.B.N. dep. are printed in black. All rails are impressed PATENT G.B. on sleepers, with the exception of the piece with the automatic braking system attached which is embossed with D on sleeper at one end and O at the sleepers other end. The brake lever is embossed with an A. The train set packed in red cardboard box with separate lid and six compartments inside box. Lid decorated with a colour picture of train in station with people in late nineteenth century costume. The diamond shaped mark enclosing the letters G B N is printed on the bottom right hand corner of the picture. Stuck on the side of the box is a label reading [z/x] 10/6 Complete. Two railway signals which have tubular metal posts painted brown with brass knobs on top. The metal arms are painted red, white and black. They pivot on a nail which passes through the post. A wire rod moves the arm to the horizontal position for stop and the downward sloping position for go. Total number of items is 19.
