A Praxinoscope (circa 1870) consisting of a turned wooden stand supporting a metal drum. The floor of the drum rises towards the centre where there is a drum of twelve mirrored facets. The whole is surrounded by a brass candlestick which rises through the centre of the mirrored drum. The outer edge of the drum is lined with eight card strips each containing sequential colour illustrations. When the praxinoscope spins the figures in the card strips, reflected in the mirrored drum, appear to be moving. The top of the mirrored drum has a red, white and blue label.
