Summary
A set of two 19th century double-sided dissected puzzles (circa 1800 -1899). One of the puzzles has two printed images on it. On one side, printed in colour on paper stuck to the wooden pieces, is an image of a maid in a kitchen. Wearing a pink and white striped dress she carries a tray with four beakers. A tabby cat sits in front of the range. On the wall above the range are three oval lids; above the maid a tray hangs on the wall. This image is illustrated in colour on the lid of the original box (see below). On the reverse of the dissected puzzle is another image in monochrome. This shows two little girls sitting beside one another in a bed. To the right is a wardrobe. On the wall above the bed is a notice which reads 'Suffer the Little Children to Come unto me'. The second sided dissected puzzle is is in its original wood and cardboard box. On the lid is a colour image of a maid wearing a pink and white striped dress carrying a tray in a kitchen. Above the illustration is printed 'Dissected Puzzle Making Four Pictures'. Inside the box is a double sided dissected puzzle depicting two maids in a room. One wearing a blue dress and white apron is washing the floor. Above her is a washing line. On the right hand side is a maid, wearing a red and pink striped dress and white apron, ironing on a table. This image is also printed in colour on a sheet of paper, also in the box. On the reverse of the dissected puzzle is a monochrome image of a maid in a bedroom carrying a tray with two cups of tea. Behind her are a dressing table and a washstand. There are three pictures on the wall above her. Total number of items is 56.
