Summary
A baby's fine white, cotton lawn, long-sleeved shirt (circa 1800 to circa 1840). The front and back have fine hand stitched tucks and a narrow machine stitched band at the waist. At the neck edge is a narrow scalloped edging. The front opening has three fabric covered buttons and buttonholes. The sleeves have a scallop-edged band at the wrists. Part of a collection of clothes worn by members of the Allsopp family C. 1875-1887. A handwritten note with this garment reads 'Baby shirt worn by the Rev. Thomas Allsopp 1768 and also by the Rev. R. W. Allsopp 1832'.
