Summary
A baby's long sleeved white cotton shirt, open at the front (circa 1760). A piece of insertion braid is on the yokes with an edge of couched thread and eyelets on either side. There is a lace edging at the neck and wrists and a cord is threaded through at the wrists. The garment incorporates 'Hollie Point' needle lace. Part of a collection of baby clothes worn by members of the Allsopp family C. 1875-1887. A handwritten paper note with these clothes reads ' Baby shirt worn by The Rev Thomas Allsop - 1768 and also by the Rev R.W. Allsop 1832'. This note may only refers to this garment. A handwritten note with this garment reads 'Baby shirt worn by the Rev. Thomas Allsopp 1768 and also by the Rev. R. W. Allsopp 1832'.
