Summary
A sampler, hand-stitched by Sarah Wilson. The sampler depicts an alphabet and the numbers 1-15, as well as the following, stitched in black thread, 'Love the Truth', Virtue is the Chiefest beauty of the mind, The noblest ornament of human kind, Virtue's our safeguard and our guiding star, That stirs up reason when our senses err'. This is outlined by an embroidered floral garland. The sampler is framed with a decorative dark wood which has four brass plates for fixing, one on each side, centrally positioned. The sampler has glass on the front and wood on the rear. The fixing is pinned and taped and has two hanging rings attached. There is a Boot's picture framing label on the back together with a price label reading '15 pounds sterling'. There is evidence of moth damage.
