Summary
A bisque-headed doll which has moulded and painted facial features, open and close blue glass eyes and an open mouth with four teeth visible. Her hair is blonde mohair, in a short style with a fringe, and she has pierced ears. Her body is made of cotton covered cardboard. Protruding from one side are two short pieces of string which, when pulled, cause a bleating sound to be heard. The upper legs are of stuffed cotton, and the arms and lower legs are of painted, glazed wood, jointed at the shoulders, elbows and knees. The doll is quite well worn and dirty. She is wearing a purple coat, possibly silk, whose edges and cuffs are bound in cream and blue patterned silk, with lace at the collar and cuffs. Down the front are four mock buttons made from green and 'diamond' beads, fastened with two black press-studs. Under this is a cream silk short sleeved dress which has lace at the neck and cuffs. Underneath is a cotton petticoat edged with broderie anglaise, a cotton waist petticoat edged with lace, and a set of broderie anglaise drawers which button together at the sides. All the underwear is cream, possibly white at one time. Around her head she has a black velvet ribbon hair band. Also in the box is a long, red, woollen cloak. This would explain why the doll is described on the box as 'Little Red Riding Hood'. This has a lot of small holes. It is gathered at the face edge with narrow elastic which has perished, and also at the neck, where a length of narrow black velvet ribbon is used to fasten it at the front, with a bow at the back. Total number of items is 2.
