Summary
A set of playing cards, that are hand printed and painted (1773). The suits are incomplete (missing - ace of diamonds, king of hearts, ace of spades, only clubs are complete). An additional card has the manufacturer's logo, name and detail of tax, duty paid - 'Six Pence Addl Duty, G111 Rex, Six Pence Addl Duty, Honi Soit Gui Mal Y Pense, No 15, Dieu Et Mon Droit, Addl Duty Sixpence, Gibson, Hunt & Son'. At a more recent date someone has written in pencil on the reverse of this card 'Gibson, date 1773'. The logo includes in its detail GIII Rex (George III), his reign was from 1760-1820, the requirement to include details of this sort and taxes paid was introduced in 1712. Total number of items is 59.
