Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Called a Son of Sir Thomas Vernon but possibly Onley Vernon (d.c.1682) by Simon Dubois (Antwerp 1632 - London 1708), signed and dated, bottom right, in black, on stone oval: S. du Bois fecit. 1682. Inscribed, bottom left: A Son of Sir. Thomas Vernons. A painted oval. head-and-shoulders portrait of a young man, turned to the right, head inclined to the left, gazing at the spectator, with long curly fair natural hair, large cream lace ruff, fawnish-brown cloak. Possibly Onley Vernon, son of George and Margaret Vernon. See likness to Mrs Onley, but absence of Vernon look. Date accords. This picture was added to the collection in 1973, through an exchange with Lord Vernon.
