Oil painting on canvas, Sir John Borlase, 1st Bt, MP (1619 - 1672) of Bockmore, Bucks by Sir Anthony Van Dyck (Antwerp 1599 - London 1641), inscribed: Sir Iohn Borlace. Bart.: of Bockmore Bucks. by Vandyke. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young man, standing, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, light brown shoulder-length curly hair, dressed in a black slashed doublet with large white lace shoulder collar, leaning with his right elbow on a plinth, his left hand at his hip. Created baronet in 1642. Son of Sir William Borlase, Kt, and Amy Popham and husband of Alice Bankes, daughter of Sir John Bankes. The original is at Kingston Lacy. By descent from the sitter, via the Borlase Warrens and Frances Warren, Lady Vernon; acquired from 10th Lord Vernon in lieu of death-duties after the death of Francis Lawrence William Venables-Vernon, 9th Lord Vernon (1889 -1963) and transferred to the National Trust in 1967 through the National Land Fund
