Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sudbury Hall from the South, British (English) School, mid-18th century. A view of the house with the lake in the foreground, the church at the left; on the lake is a miniature warship (acquired, like the Chandos Phillips portrait of Admiral Edward Vernon, to celebrate the connection?), a rowing boat and fishermen hauling in their nets in the foreground. By the same hand as SUD/P/35,37. This picture shows the house without its original balustrade on the roof, with the porch steps as altered, and when George Vernon's formal garden and canal had been replaced by a landscape setting.
