Summary
Oil painting on canvas, George Venables-Vernon, 1st Baron Vernon of Kinderton (1710-1780) by John Vanderbank the younger (London 1694 - London 1739), signed and dated, middle right: "1736/jn.o Vanderbank Fec" and inscribed bottom centre (slightly overlapped by frame moulding): "George/first Lord Vernon". A full-length portrait of a man, turned slightly to the left, head turned slightly to the right, gazing to the right, his full weight on his left leg, in a powdered shoulder-length wig, wearing a blue coat with white gold embroidered waistcoat, and lace cravat, with sword, standing in an apartment with a view at the left of the composition, of a classical crescent, by a table on which are his black hat and white gloves. His right hand is extended and his left hand is on his hip. Created Baron Vernon 1st Lord Vernon in 1762.

Vernon collection transferred to the Treasury in 1967 following death of 9th Lord Vernon, and transferred to The National Trust in 1967
