Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir William Lee, 4th Bt MP (1726–1799) by Thomas Hudson (Devonshire 1701 – Twickenham 1779), 1744/54. Full-length portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, his left ankle crossed over his right, he has shoulder-length brown curled natural hair, and is wearing a grey satin Van Dyck costume with a lace shoulder collar and a voluminous pink cloak which is gathered over his right arm, hand on hip and is draped over a rock on which he leans with his left arm, a mask dangles from the fingers of his left hand; on the right a spring gushes from the rock on which he is leaning and there is a overhanging cliff of rocks behind him on the left, a distant landscape view with cloudy sky occupies the background on the right. Brother of Ann Lee second wife of George Venables Vernon 1st Lord Vernon.

Vernon collection transfered from the Treasury to the National Trust on the 30th October 1984.
