Given to Admiral John Borlase Warren, Bt, on his embassy to St Persburg in 1802; thence by descent through his daughter and heir, Frances Maria, wife of 4th Lord Vernon; acquired from 10th Lord Vernon in lieu of death-duties after the death of Francis Lawrence William Venables-Vernon, 9th Lord Vernon (1889 -1963) and transferred to the National Trust in 1967 through the National Land Fund
