Summary
Oil painting on copper, The Sudbury Cabinet: The Creation of Eve, studio of Frans Francken II (Antwerp 1581 - Antwerp 1642), 17th century. (lower left panel) A bucolic scene of sheep grazing in pastures, a winding river and distant mountains on the right and fertile woodland on the left. Thin delicate strokes of paint show textures of leaves and wool of sheep. God appears wearing a deep scarlet robe and a glowing light frames his bearded face. Adam lies asleep whilst Eve appears to rise out from behind his torso, hands clasped in prayer, under the blessing gesture of God.
