Oil painting on copper, The Sudbury Cabinet: Cain feeing after the Murder of Abel, studio of Frans Francken II (Antwerp 1581 - Antwerp 1642), 17th century. (Lid) Cain flees across a pastoral landscape away from the figure of God in the clouds. As punishment God made Cain a fugitive and vagabond and put a mark on him so that he should be recognised.
