Oil painting on copper, The Sudbury Cabinet: Cain and Abel Sacrificing, studio of Frans Francken II (Antwerp 1581 - Antwerp 1642), 17th century. (lower middle right panel) Cain appears in the foreground surrounded by a dramatic swirl of his drapery matching the swirl of the smoke rising from his burning sacrifice of corn. Abel rests in the background kneeling at his own pyre of a sacrificial lamb clutching a spear. The sky has fiery hints of orange.
