Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Charles Langton, but possibly Master Holt, manner of John Dowman, ARA (Ruabon, North Wales, 1750 – Wrexham 1824). Oval. Three-quarter-length portrait to right,head facing,as a naval cadet,a sword in his right hand. Although not pendant to NT 637625 (GUN/P/21) the picture is similarly framed, the handling is less detailed. The sitter is described as the younger son of Bennet Langton, but Bennet Langton is recorded as the father of three sons only, George, Peregrine and Algernon. See also GUN/D/9.
