Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, Prince Charles Edward Stuart 'The Young Pretender' (1720-1788) by Veronica Stern (Rome 1717 - Rome 1801). Half-length portrait, facing, half left, with short grey wig and long hair loose behind, a brown coat with gold facings and white stock, a blue order sash and the Garter Star and another order. A label of W. Boswell and Son of Norwich on the reverse. The four miniatures, which had been given to Mr Holt by Cardinal York, were bequeathed by him to his sister, Mary Countess of Haddington, and by her to her daughter, Mary, Countess of Rothes, wife of Bennet Langton, who gave them to her second son, Peregrine Langton. - 1944 inventory
