Summary
Oil painting on canvas, John Collett, circle of Joseph Highmore (London 1692 – Canterbury 1780). Inscribed in gold lettering centre left: Collett Esq. A half-length portrait of an elderly gentleman, the grandfather of Eliza Durbin (1756 - 1822), the first wife of Reverend Sir Abraham Elton, 5th Bt (1755-1842), from Bristol, turned slightly to the right, gazing at spectator, in a powdered wig, wearing a brown velvet coat and brown waistcoat buttoned to the neck, revealing a plain stock. Brown background.
Provenance
Accepted in lieu of tax 1995 from the estate of Lady Margaret Ann Elton (1915 -1995) and transferred to The National Trust in 1998
