Summary

Oil painting on canvas, Captain John Neale Pleydell Nott RN (1732-1781) by Benjamin West, PRA (1738-1820). A portrait of the grandfather of Mary Ann Nott (1803-1875) as a middle-aged man, facing, head turned to the right, looking to the right, the fingers of his left hand gesturing to the left. He is in a short unpowdered wig,and is wearing a dark-blue naval coat, with cream reveals, gilt buttons, and gold braiding, a cream waistcoat with gilt buttons and gilt brading and a simple white stock. Cloudy background. Grandfather of Mary Ann Nott (1803-1875) the wife of Captain William Alexander Willis RN (1799-1862 who was the brother of Rhoda Susan Willis (1809-1873) the first wife of Sir Arthur Hallam Elton 7th Bt MP (1818-1883).
