A portrait of the second son of Sir Abraham Elton 2nd Bt MP (1679-1742) and Abigail Bayly as a young man, three-quarter length, turned slightly to the left, head turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator. He wears a short powdered wig, tied at the back with a black ribbon, he holds his dark blue gold trimmed tricorne hat under the crook of his left arm the fingers of his left hand fingering the gold braid on his waistcoat. His right arm is by his side and he is wearing a cream leather gauntlet on his right hand and holding its pair. He is dressed in a blue naval coat with gilt buttons, over a long white silk waistcoat with gold braiding on the edges and pockets, the hilt of his sword emerging from beneath the left of his waistcoat. He stands by the sea shore beneath a large tree on the right with foliage framing a distant view of the sea on the left with a ship in full sail beneath a cloudy sky. He married Caroline Yate.
