Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Mary Jeffries, Lady Elton by Thomas Hudson (1701-1779), circa 1740. Inscription. A three-quarter-length portrait of the wife of Sir Abraham Elton, 1st Bt (1654 - 1727) as a mature woman, seated, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator. She wears a grey, rather ill-defined high-waisted dress with long sleeves, a small lace ruff, frilled close-fitting lace cap, which is wrapped around with a gauze scarf which falls down her right shoulder to the waist. She wears a brown (fur?) shawl around her arms. The wife of Sir Abraham Elton, 1st Bt (1654 - 1727) and daughter of Robert Jeffries of Pile Green, Barton Regis, Gloucestershire (now Bristol), by Mary, his wife.
