Summary
Oil painting on canvas, King William III (1650-1702), as Prince of Orange and Stadhouder of The Netherlands, by Dutch School, circa 1680. A three-quarter-length portrait, turned slightly to left, head inclined slightly to right, gazing at spectator, wearing a flowing black wig, lace cravat, armour, with a red velvet mantle lined with ermine and surcoat showing beneath armour embroidered with a rose and thistle, his left hand on his hip, sceptre in his right hand which rests on a sculptured lion, a crown is on a draped table bottom right; brocaded drape with tassel across background centre and right, stormy sky to left.

Attingham collection. 1847 Catalogue of Paintings, p.20; 1861 Inventory p.226; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
