Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir William Bateman by Sir Godfrey Kneller (Lübeck 1646/9 - London 1723), circa 1700. A three-quarter-length portrait, seated to right, beside a window with a landscape view to right, head facing. He is wearing a brown cloak. The sitter was secretary to Richard Hill of Hawkstone, statesman and diplomatist during the reigns of William III, Anne and George I.

Attingham collection. 1913 Inventory p.90; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
