Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Maria Wicker, Lady Broughton (d.1785) by Francis Cotes, RA (London 1726 – London 1770), 1767 -1770. A three-quarter-length painted oval portrait in profile to left, right elbow resting on parapet, her chin supported on her hand. Wearing a gold turban, blue decollete dress with gold embroidered sash. A landscape setting. She was the daughter of John Wicker and Charlotte Coleburneand married the Reverend Sir Thomas Broughton, 6th Bt.

Believed to be 3rd Lord Berwick collection: William Noel-Hill, 3rd Baron Berwick (1773-1842); 1847 Catalogue of Paintings p.17; 'Heirloom' 1947 Probate Valuation p.4, no.111; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
