Summary
Large cream glazed earthenware oviform election jug with bird beak spout and strap handle. Hand painted overglaze decoration, green banners, foliate scrolls and shield containing inscription; 'Hon.ble WILL.M HILL for Ever. Majority (?)9'. The jug commemorates the election of 1796 when William Hill defeated his cousin, John Hill, a hotly contested election which severely stretched the family fortune.

Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
