Summary
A woman's evening bodice. made from black moire silk. The puffed-sleeve bodice is extensively surface decorated, with pleated cream silk net on the yoke and cuffs, which is trimmed with cream cotton lace in a floral pattern and with black velvet ribbon insertion. There is further decoration of ruched black silk taffeta ribbon on the sleeves, bodice front and back and a knotted black silk fringe. There are two external self-covered buttons on the waistline both front and back, possibly to attach a skirt. Internally, the bodice is fully lined in cream silk taffeta, with seven boning strips, a cream silk twill internal waist tie which fastens with a hook and eye, with two further hooks and eyes on the bodice and lacing for fastening, original lace missing. A maker's stamp on the inner waist tie in gold lettering reads, "Madame Devy. 73 Grosvenor Street, Grosvenor Square, W1".
