Summary
A woman's bodice, part of a dress, made from slate blue grosgrain silk. The bodice is overlaid with black cotton lace in a mixed spot and floral motif. The lace is pleated on the bib, with two lace flounces on the shoulders and a half-lace sleeve from the elbow to the frilled cuff and beading and sequin trim on the collar. There are also three Ottoman rosettes in matching grosgrain silk centre front and two matching rosettes on the cuffs. Internally the bodice is fully lined in a combination of plain brown and cream striped cotton sateen, with sixteen boning strips and fifteen hooks and eyes for fastening centre front, intact. Stamped in gold lettering on the cotton tape inner waist tie, "Mrs AS Cleland. Costumes. 28 Wellington Place, Belfast". Handwritten in black ink on the inner collar lining, "Kertland, C.1896", the donor.
