Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Edward Phelips V, MP (1725-1797) by Francis Cotes (London 1726 – London 1770), inscribed top right 'Edward Phelips Esq'. A half- length portrait of the son of Edward Phelips IV (1678-1734) and Elizabeth Phelips (1689-1750) as a mature man, turned to left, gazing to left, short unpowdered wig, red coat with red buttons and green velvet collar, green waistcoat with green buttons, white shirt and stock tucked into top of waistcoat. Plain background. He married Maria Wright (1730-1793) and was MP for Somerset, between 1774 and 1780.
