Summary
Sampler, undated, mid to late seventeenth century. Linen embroidered with coloured silks using tent, double- running and rococo stitches. The upper portion of finely drawn flower and animal motifs and a mermaid, all worked in tent stitch. On the right a motif, which approximates to a Royal Arms with two lions flanking a crowned rose, and the initials 'HR'. The lower half is filled with stylized flower sprays worked in rococo stitch.
