Summary
Sampler, undated, mid to late seventeenth century. Linen embroidered with coloured silks, silver and silver-gilt threads using rococo, tent, eyelet, chain, Florentine, cross, double-running, raised braid and interlacing stitches, with laid and couched work and pulled work. Densely-crowded spot sampler with geometric and repeating patterns including 'S' motifs, obelisks, and hearts. A few naturalistic motifs including bird, butterflies and caterpillars.
