Summary
Oil painting on canvas, circa 1740, of Richard Beaumont (1719/20-1764) of Whitley Beaumont nr Huddersfield, attributed to Hamlet Winstanley (Warrington 1698 - Warrington 1756). A full-length portrait of a young man standing slightly right, his head inclined to the left, gazing at the spectator, his left hand with his hat on his hip, right pointing downwards. He is wearing a crimson coat and breeches and a gold embroidered waistcoat. Landscape background of trees with distant horizon and a cloudy sky. En suite with NT 593118 (likely to be Richard's older brother, Henry) and NT 593117 (his wife, Elizabeth).
Provenance
According to a 1938 memo, the three Beaumont portraits (described as by Hudson) were bought c.1905 by Frank Green at the same time as he bought chairs NT 592851 from H.F. Beaumont, Whitley Beaumont, Yorkshire. On William and Mary Staircase 1908 to date; gift of Francis 'Frank' William Green FSA (1861-1954)
