Summary
Teapot and cover, porcelain, moulded in the form of a pomegranate resting on a star-shaped foot simulating the calyx, with the straight spout opposite a branch-form handle, the body is moulded with leafy sprigs and the cover is further moulded with a leafy spray and surmounted by a twig-loop finial, made in the Dehua kilns, in Fujian province, China, c, 1680-1700.
Full description
This is very common model in "blanc de Chine", as white wares from the Dehua kilns in Fujian province were known from the mid 19th century. It was frequently mounted in precious metal, gold and silver. The Chinese preferred to drink tea from red stoneware teapots made in Yixing, Jiangsu province, China, but European preferred white porcelain.
