Summary
Dish, porcelain, with broad canted rim, made in Arita, Japan, c.1695-1720; decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and iron-red enamels and gold, the centre painted with a stylised vase filled with carnations and peonies, placed on a terrace, the broad rim with three shaped Baroque panels filled with two confronting cranes on a terrace with flowering plum branches, interspersed with bold peony blossoms on a blue ground with gold details.
